WATSON HITS FIRST BIRDIE

Tom Watson proved the first golfer to get the better of today’s tricky conditions. Teeing off in the seventh group along with playing partner Justin Rose, Watson became the first to hit a birdie on the opening hole.
Despite strong winds, Watson managed to keep the ball in the fairway from the tee and hit the green with his approach. Meanwhile, Rose missed the fairway off the tee, but recovered with his second shot putting the ball on the green and two-putted to finish par.
American Lucas Glover has only managed to record one par during his opening seven holes to add to the misery of the weather. He opened with a pair of bogeys, parred the downwind third, birdied the fourth and fifth before dropping strokes on holes six and seven.
