Despite the wind and rain, golfing fanatics gathered at Royal Birkdale early this morning to watch Australian Craig Parry to tee off the 137th Open Championship.
Parry got play under way at 6:30am and was followed by playing partner Lucas Glover, with Simon Dyson stepping up as the third man at the tee. Dyson failed to match par on the first hole as 30 mile per hour winds swept in from the South West.
After giving himself a 75 per cent chance to tee off this morning at 7:58am, Padraig Harrington appeared pain free as he got his Open defence under way. The Dubliner believes he has a 50-50 chance of being able to complete all 72 holes.
Tournament favourite Sergio Garcia is due to tee off at 2:31pm this afternoon.
